    Finding the Perfect Pair

Antiques.co.uk is here to make designers’ life simpler.

Symmetry is one of the cornerstones of interior design and architecture. Human beings are naturally attracted to symmetry as it creates a feeling of calm and order, as well as being aesthetically pleasing. And the best way to bring symmetry into a space is to use pairs, whether it be items of furniture, art or pottery.

A pair can be defined in simple terms as two objects that were made at the same time, by the same artist or craftsman. It can also be two objects belonging to the same collection, which could comprise anything from 10 to 100 pieces. A pair will complement each other in size and subject matter, where the two pieces can, but do not have to be identical. For example, two paintings of the same size, in which the figures face one another, could be considered a pair.

In the world of antiques, however, finding a genuine pair can prove difficult. The two normally become separated early on, whether through inheritance, divorce settlements, or during wars. There will be copies made or the piece will have been paired up with another partner entirely. Thus, it takes a fair amount of patience and detective abilities to find a genuine pair.

This is why Antiques.co.uk will make the search process infinitely simpler. The website features many pairs already on sale, and buyers can save their search to be notified of all available items. In addition if a user owns something that could belong to a pair, they can advertise it on the website, where one of the hundreds of registered users from all around the world may just have the matching partner. Created by Iain Michael Brunt, who has a passion for pairs, the site is dedicated to helping users find the right pieces for their interiors.
