Circa 1860, unusual satin birch davenport desk. The desk is freestanding with a three quarter wraparound gallery and a sloping, hinged writing surface in red leather which is gilded, tooled. It opens to reveal a combination of 4 small drawers with turned bone handles. There is a retracting brass clasp to hold the top in position, which folds away when the desk is not being used, and it retains its original lock and clasp. It has a cupboard to the left (with dummy drawer façade) and, and 4 real drawers to the other side. It is polished and has scrolling feet, and is on an enclosed plinth.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
