ASTRONOMICAL REGULATOR BY JOHN MOORE & SONS
CLERKENWWELL , LONDON
NO.13356
John Moore & Sons is recorded as working in Clerkenwell between 1801 and 1875 producing high quality public, scientific, as well as domestic clocks.
Astronomical regulators are usually calibrated to sidereal time for accuracy in observing astronomical phenomena.
The easiest way to recognize an astronomical regulator is by the dial. Usually the dial has a matte silver finish, with the largest Band being the minute marker that is pivoted in the dial center with two smaller dials the upper dial marking the seconds and the lower dial marking the hours, in this clock 24 hours. These dials are usually placed above and below the center arbor.
This mahogany cased clock has a high quality massive movement and heavy pendulum. The case is 77 inches tall.
