Circa 1860. Very stylish mid-Victorian white marble mantel clock in the Egyptian style. The large flat top surmounted by a recumbent cast brass sphinx in an elegant pose with stylish decoration. The circular clock face with Roman numerals and the name; ‘Bryson & Sons Edinburgh and Paris.’ The bezel is flanked by a pair of brass tapering harebells, the white marble in the form of a mausoleum with ribbed sections on the front and sides, resting on an enclosed marble base. Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh.
