Circa 1760, George III mahogany partners desk. It has been made in the Chippendale manner, likely from one of Thomas Chippendale’s designs, and this large rectangular pedestal desk has a tooled and gilded leather top. A moulded edge also features and beneath the top is a blind fretwork carved apron with a geometric pattern. The desk has fielded panelled gables to the outside and inside and quarter brackets to the front (these have been added later). There is a combination of 4 drawers on the front and back of the desk, making it a full partners desk. Each drawer has cock-beaded edge cast brass rococo handles which have also been added later, and are all oak lined. Beneath the drawers is an ogee moulding running around the entire desk. The whole piece stands on squat, sturdy bracket feet that have been carved out of solid mahogany and scooped so the moulded edge appears to be applied from a solid piece of wood. Underneath are 4 original brass and leather castors still in position on the 8 feet. The desk is in one piece.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
