george iv mahogany library chair

Circa 1820, George IV mahogany library chair in the Gillows style. The frame sweeps outward towards the top and continues down to form the seat almost in the form of a cradle. The two arms are upholstered on top and finish in a shepherds crook. There are carved roundels on the ends of the arms, inside and out, and this occurs again on the ends of the seat and centre section. From the seat are two splayed feet on the front and back finishing on large square cups with brass castors. Very stylish and generous proportions.
