good ww1 imperial german seitengewehr 1907 dated model 1898 pipe back bayonet by c g haene.

This is a good Seitengewehr M1898 pipeback bayonet for the Mauser M98 rifle which was the principal arm of the German army in W.W.1. The Model 1898 Bayonet was the Imperial German response to the French 1886 Lebel narrow bladed bayonet.

The blade is stamped ‘C G HAENE SHUL’ ( manufactured 1902 to 1907 )and the spine of the blade carries inspections and ‘07’ denoting manufacture in 1907. There are also 2 further inspection stamps on the pommel.

The grips are of grooved wood and undamaged apart from minor service wear. The bayonet has a 20 ½” pipeback blade with swell point tip and a central fuller, a steel crossguard with upswept quillon. The steel pommel release button functions correctly. The scabbard is steel mounted black leather and is generally good with only a slight tear half way down on one side. All the scabbard stitching is intact. The mouth of the scabbard carries an inspection stamp.
