This is a fine example of Filipino tribal art of the Ifugao people who inhabit the mountain provinces. The cover is an image of the Rice God. This box was used by a shaman to make offerings, which could be animal blood, for good harvests. This item was obtained in the Philippines from a private collection. It had been in that collection since the 1980s. The box is approximately 5 inches high. The Rice God on the cover is 13 inches long. Late 19th-early 20th century.
