Circa 1900, mahogany inlaid jack in the box writing table/sewing box. The mahogany two piece top has crossbanding, string inlay and chequered fore edge, is hinged and opens to reveal a rising mechanism of a paper, inkwell and envelope stand. In the centre is a red leather writing surface, and to the left and right are 2 leather sections for pens etc. The writing surface has a flush military style handle which opens to reveal another small writing surface. Again within this is another lifting handle which opens to reveal a fitted out sewing section, which is lined in water silk and has a red leather section for holding needles etc. The condition is superb.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
