Circa 1890, set of 8 Chippendale style mahogany chairs, consisting of 6 side chairs and 2 armchairs. The stylish shaped top has a carved shell in the centre surrounded by beading, over an open shaped back in the form of a lyre with foliate carving at the side and scrolling beneath. The armchairs have stylish shaped arms which finish in a scroll in the front, held in place by a turned upright. There is a drop in seat pad contained within a stylish frame with ogee moulding. The back legs are outswept and the front legs are cabriole finishing on ball and claw feet. Clean, sturdy and substantial sized.
