Circa 1900, good quality Sheraton style kidney shaped mahogany inlaid desk. The top has a three quarter wrap around brass gallery which has been gilded, and a faded burgundy leather writing surface which is gilded and tooled, surrounded by a crossbanding and double string inlay. The desk is freestanding, with two panels on each side with framed sections at the top and bottom and inlaid pilasters. The inside of the desk is also polished and again framed with satinwood inlay. At the front in the centre is a concave drawer with broad crossbanding, mahogany lining and a pair of cast brass handles. On either side of that is a configuration of 4 bow fronted graduating drawers with the same inlay and handles as the centre. Beneath the bottom drawer is a double ogee moulding and the whole piece stands on 8 square, tapering legs with string inlay and finishing on brass and porcelain castors.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
