S"Size (cm): 101 x 75 canvas, with frame 93 x 119The large painting is distinguished by its remarkable expressive power of this important saint, who plays the role of 'Doctor of the Church', following his great culture and his analysis of the Holy Scriptures.In a work of art Jerome is portrayed as a hermit, covered with a red cloth only, without the dress and the cardinal's hat, evoking the waiver to the honors. Portrait kneeling in the grotto of Bethlehem, holds in his right hand the stone he uses to strike the chest and turns his face symbolically at the top. On the right, the author has brought the skull, one of the symbols that complement its iconography, a sign of his penance.This performance, combined with the naturalism of the figure much heard, bring us to approach the work to a master operating in Lombardy in the second half of the '500.The scene, marked by an intense pathos, is enhanced by a powerful lighting that highlights the accurate study of muscles and tendons, implants in the momentum of prayer and penance. The detailed anatomy of the body shows the intensity of the moment and the feelings experienced by the penitent Saint Jerome.The painting is in excellent condition and, like all our object is sold with a photo certificate of authenticity.
