very rare antique ethnographic 19thc taiwanese aboriginal atayal lalaw head hunter knife - short sword asian machete, paiwan

A rare and genuine 19thc Taiwanese Atayal headhunting Lalaw sword - knife, in fantastic condition and new to the market, well looked after and with no damage.

Hand forged by a native Atayal smith on the Islands of Taiwan in 19thc, the blade shows clear signs of lamination, the spine is thick and distil tapering from its hilt to its tip, the hilt is hollow and thick walled, very strong, likely made to hold a pole -cane to make it a spear if needed ?, the blade is like a razor, very sharp, its quite a heavy knife - sword in the hand.The scabbard is made of a native hardwood with lovely old age patina and polish, it is 1 section of wood with cut away slot for the knife to fit into & has iron staples that hold the knife in place, none of them are missing, it has 2 suspension holes at the top of the scabbard and in middle for suspension - belt loops of cord for carrying on a belt or sash and on the very bottom end of the scabbard there are 4 holes where there possibly once were hair tufts.
size is 53.5 cm in scabbard, out of scabbard 44cm, blade 29cm, spine closest to hilt 9.6mm, middle of spine 6.1mm, tip 2.7mm, and amazingly heavy large knife short sword and it certainly is still very sharp.
