Circa 1880, late Victorian carved walnut throne or hall chair. With profusely carved back rail above a central gilded cartouche and a carved emblem of Edinburgh Castle. With upholstered back, seat and arm rests, it also has the coat of arms for Edinburgh city and ‘Nisi Dominus Fustra’ translating to: ‘if you travel without the Lord you travel in vain’. With damage to the leather panel, the padded arms are held in place by shaped uprights with reeded tops. The stuff over seat with a serpentine front is over square, tapering and slightly out swept back legs. To the front are unusual barley sugar legs, finishing with a block, and all are united by a (H) shaped stretcher, before all stand on brass castors.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
