Vintage Eastern or Tribal Hardwood Headrest with Dished Top

A substantial oriental or tribal hardwood headrest (Japanese 'takamatura'), difficult to date but almost certainly from the 20thC and generally in good condition, with dished top on tapering hand-shaped legs, these were never intended to be comfortable and are now much more likely to find favour as a display piece for fruit or other decorative items but it will charm, at the very least as a conversation piece, in any tastefully-appointed home.Length 52.75cm x Width 29cm (20.75" x c11.5")O/All Height 22.75cm (c9") & Height at Centre 17.25cm (c6.75")This piece is difficult to date but you may expect the mature character & patina of genuine age, together with wear & tear commensurate with normal use, including a small knothole in the top and another hole that appears to have been drilled through the lip for no apparent reason (see Pics). In other respects, it's in good, clean & sound original condition and is ready to use in your home.J-429082/1979
