WMF (c.1906) Lily of the Valley Pen Tray.
This is a truly elegant Art Nouveau pen tray in plated pewter with an antique finish (stamped ‘as’).
Fully marked with ‘WMF’, ‘EP’ and ‘as’ backstamps.

Length: 27cm. Height to top of nymph: 6cm. Width: 6.5

It takes the form of a lily leaf with a nymph at one end of the design forming part of a stable base. It has a soft silvered lustre to it and has rarely been polished in order to preserve the original finish. The face, hands and hair of this classic WMF nymph are very fine in detail, as are the graduated lily flowers. Condition: The nymph’s arm, which lies along the edge of the leaf design, has split slightly from the leaf, as per photo, but this does not impact upon the stability of the object or the beauty of the design. Otherwise condition is very good This design was illustrated on page 273 of the 1906 WMF Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork catalogue.
