We are delighted to make available for sale this stunning pencil and watercolour by listed artist George Barnard (1815-1890) titled “Lauterbrunnen Valley. George Barnard was a British artist who was born in 1815 and died in 1890.
George Barnard was a prolific artist, professor of Art, Lithographer, writer of books on art drawing and on alpine nature. He was one of the founders of the Alpine Club (act. 1857–1863) as part of a group of middle-class men who established the Alpine Club in 1857 and popularized the sport of mountaineering in the Alps during the 1850s and 1860s.
It is during such expeditions the artist created the most awe-inspiring images of the Alps depicting stunning sceneries. In the "Lauterbrunnen Valley" the level of details is almost overwhelming. The mighty mountains wrapped in the colour of spring, the water fall with the spray mist, village life and the village on the foreground all look heavenly.
This is a fine English School pencil and watercolour with beautiful colours and a great deal of details making this a collectable piece of art.
It is signed lower left and dated 1883.
The painting is framed in an elegant and contemporary wooden frame with a gilt detail and it is glazed with an anti glare glass.
The watercolour is in excellent condition.
