Circa 1800, late George III mahogany and inlaid lift top dressing table. The top, with its string inlay with a stylish pattern on the corners, has a moulded edge and it is hinged. Inside is a green baize board which can be removed, showing the original apertures for the basin and containers. Beneath the top there are 2 faux drawers and oval cast brass handles and 2 cupboard doors with inlay similar to the top. There is a small axe head drop in the centre for opening and closing and inside there is an open felt lined space. The whole table stands on 4 square tapered legs with a stylish satinwood and ebony panel at the top and a concave arch with a dot above it. Examples of this occur in the Edinburgh Directory of Furniture.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
