late victorian carved walnut nursing chair / parlour chair with cope & collinson patent ceramic casters

This mid to late Victorian carved walnut nursing chair is absolutely stunning. The seat with serpentine front and spring and hair is upholstered in a neutral brown material with a soft velvet feel to it which would fit in with most colour chemes and finished with gold braided lower edges. The splat back is beautifully carved with scrolls and foliage details. The chair has turned and reeded front walnut legs and plainer back legs with the original brass and ceramic casters by Cope & Collinson (C&C Patent) marked on each.

This low nursery chair would originally have been used by nursing mothers but are now generally purchased as decorative pieces for the home.The chair is sturdy with no loose joints and in an excellent condition commensurate with its age. There is one small piece of the turned front right leg (as you look at it from the front) that is missing but is not very noticeable as it is towards the back of the leg. I have shown this on the penultimate photo (the lower circular part on the right). Otherwise it is in excellent condition.
