late victorian walnut and brass mounted hall stand in the manner of james shoolbred & co

This late Victorian walnut brass mounted hall stand for umbrellas and/or sticks is in the manner of James Shoolbred & Co circa 1880's. The rectangular galleried platform is above a panel flanked by patera flower-head finials. The U-shaped bar to hold the sticks are above a back panel with decorative brass quadrants flanked by ring turned columns, on brass splayed feet. The brass diamond shaped registration kite mark above at the front shows that this design was registered in May 1882 as part of a bundle of 3.

James Shoolbred & Co, also known as Jas Shoolbred was established in the 1820's as a drapers but started started designing, manufacturing and retailing their own high quality furniture in their thriving and fashionable furniture shop in the 1860's. By the 1880's they had expanded to larger premises becoming one of the first large department store in London. They were granted a Royal Warrant by the mid 1880's and their Victorian furniture was of the highest quality of the late Victorian period. MEASUREMENTS
