Circa 1815, Regency mahogany, satin birch and satinwood sofa table. The rectangular top has two long D end shaped leaves, multiple string inlays and a large satin birch crossbanding. Unusually, the actual mahogany top has mitred corners, giving the impression of a frame. The leaves are supported by the original shaped wooden hinges. Beneath the top are two drawers, one dummy and one real, on either side. The drawers have boxwood inlay, original locks and the liners and rails are solid oak. The drawer front is solid mahogany. Each of the drawers has two neat sized oval brass handles with a stylish back plate. The handles have been changed. Beneath the drawers is a double boxwood and ebonised string inlay. The table stands on two uprights which have boxwood inlay on the side, united by a turned stretcher. At the bottom of the upright is a small moulding which runs around the block and from this come two elegant curved legs which finish with square tapering brass cups and brass castors. The castors are original and there are no breaks on the legs. The table has been re-polished. The flaps have no warps and the undercarriage is completely original.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
