Circa 1870, monumental exhibition quality Scottish carved oak sideboard. The wonderful styled back has mythical winged lions on each end and a heraldic shield in the centre held on scrolling foliate. The whole frame of the back is profusion of carved foliate and oak leaves. The top has a double edge which is carved in two different styles, the first almost like folding linen and the second a form of gadrooning. There is a configuration of 3 carved bow fronted drawers below this, with a grabbing handle on the centre drawer in the form of a bunch of grapes. On the base the centre is set back and has a fielded panel, and at the front are two doors both with a pair of carved mythical lions standing on wonderful realistic paw feet. The panel in the centre is fielded with a carved beading and the doors open to reveal various cupboards and drawers. The whole sideboard stands on an enclosed plinth. There is a Broughty Ferry makers label on the back. Top quality, wonderful example of high Scottish Victoriana.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
