Circa 1860, French mahogany painted ladies cylinder bureau. The rectangular top section has variegated red marble insert and brass three quarter wrap around gallery with a stylish heart design. This is held in position by a brass bezel. Beneath this is a configuration of three small drawers with brass knob handles and brass fielded panels. The cylinder is painted, depicting a gentleman reading to two ladies. This slides back to reveal an interior with a writing slide which can be brought forward, and there is a configuration of three pigeon holes and three drawers similar to the ones above. To each side of the cylinder are ribbed sections. Beneath this is a full length drawer, with brass panels to create the impression of three separate drawers, with a stylish escutcheon and brass key in the centre and brass swan handles on either side. The gables have brass inlay which follows the form of each section. The tapering legs have a brass bezel at the top and fluting below, finishing on a small taper at the end.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
