large heavy 19thc sundanese golok sword west java indonesian machete asian knife unusual and rare

A good 19thc Sundanese Golok from west Java Indonesia dating around 1850 to 80.

This is an unusual sized Golok for the region compared to later types due to its width and sheer size and weight, the blade is made from a laminated steel much like Pamor steel, it is marked as all Sunda golok are with a set of numbers and dots and is wide and thick spine'd with a very sharp cutting edge.
The hilt is made from a single piece of native hard wood, the few cracks in the wood hilt on one side have been cleverly filled with a copper wire that appears to have been hammered into the wood, the guard is thick and heavy brass.
Unusually for Golok this large one has been made with a through tang that has been peened over an iron washer, a very very unusual Golok of considerable age.It has been suggested that this Golok could be a much older version of the later Golok from Sunda and its use may have been as a sword type weapon rather than a long knife for jungle jungle and general work as well as defensive.
