Circa 1860. A rare set of 20 Scottish mahogany dining chairs. The large curved cresting rail in rich mahogany, with elegant scrolling beneath, the lower back, with C scrolls on the bottom and foliate carving on the sides. The uprights with reeding which continues and tapers at the top rail, the large stuff over seats, with simple seat rails which are chamfered on the top and the bottom, back legs are square and slightly out-swept, and front legs are turned ring turned and finish on an elegant toe. The underside of the chair shows an ash frame (sign of quality).
