Circa 1790, unusually deep George III mahogany cabinet bookcase. The top has a simple classical Georgian cornice, rounded ogee moulding and a flame mahogany apron. Beneath this are 2 glazed doors with geometric glazing bars, 6 on each side. Inside there are 3 full size adjustable shelves with a shaped moulded fore-edge and there are 2 large brass escutcheons on the outside and original key and lock. Beneath these 2 large glazed doors there is a small moulded edge which runs around the side of the bookcase and beneath this there are 2 panel doors again with similar escutcheons and beading. Inside there is a single full length shelf. Beneath these 2 doors there is an ogee moulding that continues around the sides and the whole piece stands on 4 squat bracket feet. The bookcase could also be used as a display cabinet.
